Blackphone, the Android phone that’s supposed to enhance the privacy of the user, actually has a price and can be pre-ordered. The device costs $629, The Next Webreports, and the smartphone will start shipping this June. In addition to pre-order details for the smartphone, Geeksphone has also listed some specs and features for the device. The Blackphone will offer a 4.7-inch HD IPS display, 2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 8-megapixel camera 802.11n, and 4G LTE support.
The handset will run a PrivatOS operating system based on Android and will include Google Apps, but it will also include a variety of other apps including Silent Phone, Silent Text and Silent Contacts, as well as some exclusive Blackphone apps including Blackphone Security Center, Blackphone Activation Wizard and Blackphone Remote Wipe.
“The result? Searching with this security-focused handset will be anonymous, rather than trackable,” the publication writes. “All bundled apps will be privacy-enabled and Wi-Fi can be disabled automatically until you reach a trusted or specified network. App permissions can be controlled with greater precision and basic functionality including calls, texts and video chats will be private.”
Carriers are yet to announce plans to carry the Geeksphone Blackphone.
